Max McDermottPhD Student, NeuroscienceMax is interested in the molecular basis of behavior. In particular he is most fascinated by the mechanisms that underlie tolerance to opioids. Recently he has been looking at the role of the GPR171-BigLEN system on morphine-induced tolerance. His belief in the need for better pain therapeutics with safer side effects keeps him pipetting and behavioral assaying all week long.

Alyssa LauerPhD Student, NeuroscienceAlyssa received a Master's degree in Psychological Science, focusing her thesis on the effects of cannabinoids on adolescent cognitive development. She is interested in examining the complex relationship between the endogenous cannabinoid system and the opioid system. She's also interested in the therapeutic potential of cannabinoids for the treatment of chronic pain.

Callie PorterMaster's Student, BiologyCallie began working in the Bobeck Lab in Fall 2021. She received her undergraduate biology degree from USU in 2019. Currently her work aims to decode and elucidate the molecular mechanisms of chronic neuropathic pain, drug tolerance and immunoneurological interaction of the central nervous system.
